CHALLENGE
Improve the UX in the flower and plant industry.
Due to the global pandemic that confined the country and overwhelmed the healthcare system, the
flower and plant sector also was hitelike a hurricane, causing irreparable damage to an industry
that was just recovering from the previous crisis of 2008-2014.
That's why we have been given the challenge of improving the user experience in this sector,
by creating a solution that helps our client recover from the current crisis they face, as
they are unable to sell and promote their products.
RESEARCH
To better understand the problem and the user, we conducted various surveys and personal
interviews with over 100 individuals with the aim of learning about their stories,
experiences, and thoughts regarding this sector, as well as identifying their frustrations
and issues.
From the interviews conducted, the figures that impressed us the most were as follows:
56% of users don't know how to care for their plants.
61% of users are interested in attending workshops on plant care.
56% prefer to buy plants instead of flowers.
User Persona & Empathy Map
After analyzing the data, we created user personas, empathy maps, and user journeys to
identify and delve into various pain points experienced by our users, with the aim of
ensuring that these are addressed by our solution.
IDEATION
During this stage, we focused on generating the highest number of ideas, whether they were
impossible or possible, with the aim of solving the problems our users were facing.
We used the 2x2 classification, where ideas are categorized based on whether they are
possible or impossible and innovative or traditional.
The winning ideas included "disease diagnosis system," "plant care tips," and "AR-based
location for the best plant spot."
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Dr. Plant consists of 5 main modules, which correspond to the most important
functionalities that have been identified. These modules are as follows:
Plant Diagnosis: In this module, we can scan or upload photos of our plants to identify
if they have any diseases or pests.
My Garden: This section is for registering all the plants or flowers we have.
Additionally, we can quickly check the care they need.
Light/Shade Location: In this module, we can use augmented reality to find the ideal spot
for our plant.
Second Life: In this section, we can access videos or kits to create new products or help
our other plants by using the remains of other plants, thus supporting the circular economy.
Online Store: This module is dedicated to purchasing eco-friendly remedies, plants, and
more.
BRANDING
The next step was to add color and identity to the application.
My goal was to reflect nature in the application, so I chose shades of green, yellow, and white to convey freshness and vegetation to the user.

WIREFRAMES & PROTOTYPE
I designed both low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes to prototype the application and conduct user testing.
1. Diagnose your Plants.
With Dr. Plant, you can scan your Plant and identify any diseases, pests, or issues it may have. It also provides advice on how to cure or treat the disease.
2. Find the best spot for your Plant.
Thanks to Dr. Plant's AR technology, you can find the best spot inside or outside your house with the right amount of light or shade your Plant needs.
3. Learn more about your Plant every day.
The app can help you identify the type of Plant you have and provide you with all the information about its care to keep your Plant beautiful and strong.
CONCLUSIONS
User Testing and Results.
After having the
prototype ready, we proceeded to conduct user testing on InVision with 5 users. This allowed
us to identify potential improvements to the application and pinpoint any user frustrations.
We confirmed that the application was intuitive for the users.
Each user was assigned 5 tasks within the application, and 90% of these tasks were completed
quickly by the users. Additionally, we received positive feedback from the users, who found
the application very useful and easy to use.
